SP workers ‘beat up’ cops in Bijnore
A group of Samajwadi Party workers reportedly beat up policemen in presence of party district president Rashid Hussain at a police station in Bijnore Sunday. The SP workers were demanding the release of a person detained in connection with a girl’s abduction.
The situation was defused after district superintendent of police Dalvir Singh Yadav rushed to the police station and released the man. The SP also removed inspector Ram Prasad, who was in-charge of the police station, for “mishandling the case and detaining the wrong person”.
“An inquiry by the SP (City) has been ordered. Action against the mob would be taken after receiving the inquiry report that would be filed within a week. The mob was led by SP district president Rashid Hussain,” said Dalvir Singh.
Around 9.00 pm, a crowd of more than 100 men, mostly SP workers, reached the police station and demanded that the police release Rahees whom has been detained to know the whereabouts of his cousin, Mustakeem, who had allegedly abducted a 21-year-old girl on April 25.
The girl’s father Yogendra Kumar had named Mustakeem and others in his complaint. When Mustakeem could not be located, the police brought Rahees to the police station on Sunday morning for questioning.
When the police refused to release Rahees, the crowd turned unruly and beat up policemen. Additional police was summoned from other police stations.
Hussain denied misbehaving with the policemen. “Some people went to the police station to know the progress of the case in which two girls have been missing for the last three months, but the inspector misbehaved with them. Meanwhile, I and other SP workers came to know about it and went to the police station. The inspector misbehaved with us and ordered a lathi-charge”, said Rashid Hussain.
A resident of Madauli village, Mustakeem is an auto driver. The girl he has allegedly abducted is from the nearby Jandarpur village and is a student at the Rani Bhagyavati Devi Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Bijnore. The police said the girl and Mustakeem, both adults, were last reported in Delhi.
